PS Blog Post #1
HI Everyone, I am Rosie's Blog Official Guinea Pig. Since I'm the husband I get to do the testing. I'll start this off with a prank I and Joe Mayberry pulled in '68. We went all over PS's neighborhood "borrowing" For Sale signs and planting them on PS's front lawn. Anyone remember? Probably not. Oh well, your turn. Phil
Here's one of the stunts we used to pull. We would write a list that would include things like a Coke bottle cap, or a Baby Ruth wrapper, as well as stuff we really didn't care about, like a purple button or last months newspaper. Then we would ring doorbells and tell them we were on a scavenger hunt and read teh things we still needed, which included the candy and the Coke cap. People would say they didn't have a cap but they could give us the coke and we could keep the cap, too, or they would give us the whole candy bar because they didn't have an empty wrapper.
What do you think about the city officials wanting to build a new high school in Wilmington??? Helloooo...what are they thinking? They have just put 44 million dollars in giving birth again to PS duPont, a magnificent Georgian building just waiting to become a high school again. Wake up guys...we need community schools again for our upcoming generations. A school our kids can walk to like we did and our families before us did...Bring back Warner as a Jr. High, bring back Howard as a high school...In 1978 they took the life out of Wilmington, by shutting down all of our schools and putting our kids on a 2 hour bus ride to someone else's community...It's time to take back our city and reclaim our schools. We have several public officials that are PS duPont alumnus, let's ring their phones and tell them what we think and get our great city back on track...Would love to hear your thoughts on this...

PS was, and still is, a magnificent structure. It was a great place for education and should REMAIN as such. I've been out of the area for many years (Class of '67) and do not know the ins and outs of what is going on, but no matter. If Wilmington needs schools, PS is there. USE IT! Bring it back to life. Keep the communities we all knew and lived in. Communities give a sense of self and history. Without that, we lose identity. I live in Virginia now and love it, but Wilmington will always be where I was born and raised. I still speak fondly of PS. It gave me a good start, and for that I am grateful.
I agree they have a school structure in Wilmington and should keep P.S. Dupont going strong with tradition and pride. I am no longer in the area but have great memories of attending P.S. Dupont. I am looking forward to this November.
